Sound ReDesign: Sifu
Pillow punches, knife scrapes, kick drums, singing bowls and my voice were a few of the recordings used to fill out the sound edit – with extra processing to exaggerate every element. Mixing the combat beneath the glass floor was an interesting challenge. I wanted to keep a distance from the action to respect the camera perspective while still hearing the chaos above. So, I blended impacts and scrapes on glass with exaggerated echoes and screams using SoundToys SpaceBlender. This gave me a nice balance of realism and abstraction.
My last addition to the mix was a short musical swell using cello recordings combined with snippets of me noodling on a Moog. Without it that particular moment felt dead and empty.
I think it turned out pretty cool!
Sound ReDesign: Wonder Woman
In spring of 2022, I completed two Sound Design tests for Monolith. The goal for each, was to completely replace the original soundtrack and create a cinematic sequence that highlighted my ability to design new sounds from scratch. I spent the next 2.5 years as a Senior Sound Designer for Monolith, focusing on combat, Wonder Woman’s abilities and cinematics. I loved working in that world!
