Us Against the World - HBO Series

For the past few months, I’ve been working with Bruton Stroube Outpost as a Sound Designer on a great documentary series for HBO. The shows follows the USA men’s soccer team leading up to the World Series and was fun to put together. The sound design emphasizes the players extraordinary talent with super human impacts and movement during gameplay scenes. In the series I covered the heighted sound design as well as the day to day sound effects edit and backgrounds. The team at Outpost is killer and with Foley from Katie Waters at Noise Floor and motion graphics Casey Latiolas’s tream at Good Secrets, this show turned out amazing.

US Against the World - HBO

Marathon

During Marathon’s final months of production, I had the pleasure of working with Vicious Sound as a Senior Sound Designer for the game. Working with the teams at Bungie and Vicious, I was tasked with creating and implementing sounds for glitched robotics, machinery and devices found in the world while matching the high quality bar and attention to detail that the team had established. It was a great opportunity to grow my sound design skills while learning their internal tools and workflows. The game looks and sounds amazing and I’m proud of my contributions to this massive title.

Goodnight, Monolith

Warner Bros has canceled our Wonder Woman game and in the same breath, announced the closure of Monolith Productions. The studio recently celebrated 30yrs and many devs shared a good portion of that anniversary. It was an absolute privilege to work with this team and dream up the sound world of Wonder Woman. Having the freedom to experiment and think deeply about this game was such a gift. I loved this job and hope my next project will be as inspiring as my time with Monolith.

Monsters! Tape Loops! Binaural Sounds!

It’s been an extremely busy and creative time for me. Over the past year I’ve been recording and designing three new libraries!

The first and biggest is Monsters! A collection of vocalizations depicting a variety of creatures from Banshees to Zombies. This was an enormously fun project that allowed me to record farm animals, friends, props and myself. There was plenty of experimentation to blend real world recordings with delicate processing. Hopefully creating believable, organic and exciting sounds in the end.

During all that time I’ve been recording Binaural Sounds with a 3Dio Microphone. By simulating human ears the mics capture sound similar to how we hear them. This creates a 3D illusion of sound all around you while listening on headphones. With that in mind I captured forests and neighborhood ambiences, rain storms in my car, pop rocks crackling, balloons squealing and much more. These types of sounds would be really useful for podcasts or anything where headphones wold be the main source of listening.

Finally there is a collection of Tape Loop sounds. This began as an excerise to make sounds away from the computer. During the summer of 2020 I wanted to focus on sometime “tangible” in sound. So splicing cassette tapes felt like a fun way to discover something new and use my hands in audio. The result is a collection of musical loops, scratchy ambiences and warped noises from a tape deck. The patterns developed from this technique are very spontaneous and the entire process was a joy.

These collections are the result of an entire year of experimentation and I hope they bring a lot of inspiration to whoever uses them. Now onto the next batch of noises!

St. Aeon Choir - Now on Music Bed!

Over the last year and half, I’ve had the pleasure of producing a series of choral arrangments with Trina Harger, that are now exclusively available from Music Bed. Creating choral music during the pandemic wasn’t easy but with multiple layers from various singers and additional instrumentation, we were able to make some beautiful music. We definitely look forward to recording with more singers as people start coming together.

TENSION and VHS / CD / Tape libraries now available!

New update of old news. This last year I’ve made two new sound effect libraries! The first is called TENSION and it is a collection of textures, tones, drones and materials that will help create a world of anxiety, tension, stress and unease. Perfect for underscoring or using specific sounds to punctuate onscreen props or objects.

The second library is an assortment of sounds captured from VHS / CD / Tape machines. Fast Forward, Rewind, Eject and insertion sounds are all here. Great for sound editing the literal source onscreen or for heightening transition FX. A really fun library to bend and twist with plugins.

All sounds were captured with the Sound Devices MixPre 6 at 192kHz.

Cowboys: A Documentary Portrait

Finally Cowboys: A Documentary Portrait is here! This project was a huge undertaking but the entire process of creating the soundtrack was immensely satisfying. With two directors who have walked the walk when it comes to cowboying, no sound-rock was left untouched. From the ambiences of Texas to the appropriate feel of hoofs and sounds of foley, everything in the soundtrack was mixed in detail.

Prodigy - Now streaming on Quibi!

Over the last few months, we here at Outpost have been working hard on Prodigy for Quibi. Each episode of this docu-series profiles a young athlete projected to be the next big thing in their respective sport, giving an inside look as they train towards their next historic sports moment. I made a lot of new sounds for each episode to match the glitchy visuals that frequent the show. This was done by recording source material like dribbling basketballs, scraping metal or making sounds with my voice, and then speeding up the recordings and chopping them into tiny pieces. The results have a fun stuttery energy that match the vibe of the show. Check it out!

Sci-Fi Sound Library!

Thrilled to announce my Sci-Fi sound effects library is now available via Triune Digital! I was excited to be asked to make these sounds and love how it turned out. Perfect for building a gritty cyberpunk future, where glitchy robots and whirring vehicles fill the landscape.

Chilliwack

Over this past weekend I ventured to Chilliwack, British Columbia for their annual independent film festival. Such a beautiful place! We screened our film Rabbit’s Foot and am happy to say it was awarded best score!

Cowboys at AFF!

Cowboys: A Documentary Portrait premiered at the Austin Film Festival last month. I mixed and sound designed the film over this past winter and was excited to see it with a Texas audience. Also happy to hear it won the audience award from the festival!

Ghosts of Sugar Land - Coming to Netflix this Oct. 16th!

Super excited to share that the Sundance film I mixed Ghosts of Sugar Land, will be arriving on Netflix this October 16th! Working on this film pushed me to mix smarter not flashier. Our director Bassam Tariq would constantly encourage me to think of ways to subtly influence the soundtrack without calling attention to itself. A difficult task but worth the effort!



St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase - Rabbit's Foot wins Best Sound!

After working on Rabbit’s Foot for over 6 months, it is rewarding to be recognized in the St. Louis film community. The short film won Best Sound at this years awards ceremony and also Best Drama. That means it’ll move on to the St. Louis International Film Festival this fall. Hope more people go out to see it!
